Overview

Langtang valley trek is one of the least trekked, yet one of the calm and scenic trekking areas located north of the Kathmandu Valley. The route goes through traditional and ethnic villages and untouched forests on the way to the peaks of Langtang-Lirung. The route is not so steep and the altitude is relatively low that anyone who is physically fit can do this trek easily.

Walking along the Langtang River crossing many forests and hills, ascending the trail experiencing the changes in vegetation and hearing the rhythms of different birds, hoping to see the different animals including endangered Red Panda, observing the lifestyle of locals and their hospitality and occasionally appearance of the Himalayas in the trail energize you as such that you will reach in the destination without feeling tired. After reaching the Kyangjin Gompa, view of the massive Langtang Lirung and other peaks as well as glacier take away all your hardness.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in the Kathmandu airport (TIA), you will be greeted by a representative from Black Diamond at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to the hotel. After check in, you can either take rest; hang around in the city as it all depends upon your interests. In the evening, we will organize a Welcome Dinner at an excellent traditional Nepalese restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal.Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing & Preparation for the Trek

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. The day will also be for finalizing official procedure and other necessary arrangements. You will be also briefed on the nature of the trek, equipments and team composition. Some of landmarks we visit include the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhu Nath) and Buddhists shrine (Bouddha Nath). In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. You can also make your last minute buying of personal items.

Day 3Drive to Syabrubesi

After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi.

Day 4Syabrubesi - Lama Hotel

This is our first day of trekking today. Follow the Langtang Khola River. Pass through the dense forests. Cross several suspension bridges. We also pass by a tea houses. The trail goes up and down but it’s not that challenging.

Day 5Lama Hotel - Langtang village

After taking morning tea, we embark our second day of the journey. Our trail continues along dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. Enjoy the marvelous views of Langtang Lirung. Pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them.

Trek Duration: 6-7 hrs

Day 6Langtang village - Kyanjin Gompa

After taking morning tea and breakfast, we get out of the village and pass on through yak pastures. Also pass the largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them. The prayers written on the mani wall is supposed to be blown away by the wind. Cross several of the wooden bridges. Since, we are really getting into the high altitudes, you might start feeling the thin air. Gompa. Kanjin Gompa is surrounded by the Himalayas all around. You can take a walk around Kanjin Gompa enjoying the views, glaciers, icefalls, birds and yaks.

Day 7Visit to Tserko Ri and trek back to Lama Hotel

Early morning we visit to Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) for mountain sunrise views. After breakfast, proceed to Lama Hotel. Since, its mostly downhill, it is 4/ 5 hours walk from Kanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel. The trail goes all the way down hill through forest following the river. Pass through the ethnic Tamang settlements who follow religious and cultural practices similar to the Tibetans.

Day 8Lama Hotel - Syabrubesi

After breakfast, we trek down to Syabrubensi, about 5 hours walk. Enjoy the easy trail mostly downhill through lush green vegetation. Arriving Syabrubesi, we take our lunch.

Day 9Drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast we drive back to Kathmandu. Arriving Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. Spend the day leisurely or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore any sights you missed during your first day in Kathmandu. In the evening, celebration dinner together.

Day 10Departure Day

We are saying good bye to the mountains as journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with travel companions and organize the photos. If you have more time you can do some shopping or sightseeing. Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight a representative from Black Diamond will take you to the airport. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Accomodation

You will be accommodated in Hotel Encounter Nepal or a similar category’s hotel in Kathmandu, and basic tea houses/guest houses during the trek when trekking with Black Diamond Expedition.
On most Langtang valley  Treks, the tea houses or lodges serve rooms on a twin-sharing basis with an attached bathroom and hot shower facilities. Single-supplement rooms are served with an extra charge of USD 250. However, it may be difficult to get one in higher points or during the peak season of trekking.
Some of the tea houses in this trekking region in both lower and higher elevations may have shared bathrooms and toilet facilities.

Meals

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes only breakfast while you are on the trek, there are three-course meals will be served during the trekking.
The tea house where we spend an overnight will serve us a balanced diet for breakfast and dinner whereas lunch is taken at one of the tea houses on the way to our next destination. Black Diamonds has also prepared a special Welcome and Farewell dinner for the guests following a cultural performance in Kathmandu.

Best time to trek Langtang Valley

The best seasons for trekking to the Langtang Valley Trek are Autumn (Sept to Dec) and Spring (March to May). The weather is sunny and warm making the views outstanding in these seasons. The weather condition is the primary issue during the Winter (Jan to Feb) season for trekking to Langtang Valley. The region offers a freezing cold during winter. Just opposite to this, Langtang Valley Trek gets affected by monsoons during Summer/ rainy season (June to August).

While trekking to Langtang Valley Trek, it is essential to pack necessary items wisely. You should be sure to pack the stuff appropriately because you will be trekking through the rough terrain in high-altitude areas and it will be difficult to carry all the stuff and trek.
