Overview

Tilicho Lake Trekking (or Tilicho lake trek) gives magnificent views of major peaks of Annapurna Himalayan range such as Lamjung Himal 6932m, Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna IV 7525m, Annapurna III 7555m, Gangapurna 7454m and other snow-capped peaks.Tilicho lake, at an elevation of 4920 m in the high Himalayan region of Manang, is the highest lake in the world. One can have the magnificent views of all these mountain peaks during the trek to Tilicho lake. The traditional Tibetan villages with unique cultures and traditions gives trekkers a lifetime experience while trekking to Tilicho. Lake Tilicho also has a legendary feature of being a holy spot for the Hindus as is described in the Ramayan, the sacred holy book of the Hindus. The crossing of the challenging Tilicho Pass (5120 m) is an added advantage in the Tilicho Lake Trekking. Nevertheless, the diversity in the landscapes, temperature and the people that changing every few days ornate this trek as a unique and exceptional trek. A scenic drive from Kathmandu to Chamje begins the Tilicho Lake Trek with Black Diamond Expedition . The drive leads you through towns, villages and farmlands. The trek starts downhill most of the way following the mighty Marsyangdi River upstream all the way to its source at Manang and beyond. From Manang, following the North West route and heading towards Tilicho Lake Base Camp and Tilicho Lake. From Chauri Kharka. the trek descends downhill towards Jomsom. The exhilarating trek to Tilicho Lake comes to an end with a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and drive back to Kathmandu.

Although Tilicho Lake Trek is a part of Annapurna Circle Trekking, we have a customized trail that gives you extra joy and thrilling experience of the Tilicho Lake Trek.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by one of our representatives and makes an arrangement to transfer you to a hotel by private tourist vehicle. Overnight at hotel Encounter Nepal.

Day 2Drive from Kathmandu to Besi Shahar

Today, after breakfast, you’ll begin on a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besi Sahar, followed by a bumpy ride to Chame, the starting point of your trek. The journey offers stunning views of the countryside and mountains. On arrival at Besisahar, you will witness stunning snow-capped mountain scenery. Overnight at a Teahouse/Lodge.

Day 3Chame to Pisang

Today, you’ll follow the Marsyangdi River, walking through lush forests and traditional villages. The trail gradually climbs, offering stunning views of Annapurna II and Pisang Peak. Along the way, you’ll pass through picturesque villages like Bratang, known for its apple orchards, and see beautiful landscapes dotted with terraced fields. When you reach Pisang, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and traditional Tibetan-style architecture.

Day 4Pisang to Manang

The trail takes you through the picturesque landscapes of the Manang Valley, passing by monasteries and offering panoramic views of the Annapurna range. After some hours of walking, you’ll reach Manang, a charming village known for its rich culture and breathtaking scenery.

Day 5Acclimatization Day in Manang

Today is a rest day to help your body adjust to the altitude. You can explore the village, visit the ancient Braga Monastery, or hike to Gangapurna Lake for stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 6 Manang to Khangsar

You’ll leave Manang and trek towards the small village of Khangsar, passing through alpine forests and along the Marsyangdi River. The day’s trek is relatively short, allowing you to enjoy the stunning landscapes. Overnight in Khangsar.

Day 7Trek to Tilicho Base Camp

The trail today takes you through rugged terrain on your way to Tilicho Base Camp. As you ascend, the landscape becomes more barren and rocky, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks. You’ll pass through alpine meadows and cross small streams, enjoying the serene high-altitude environment. Upon reaching Tilicho Base Camp, you’ll have time to rest and marvel at the dramatic scenery before settling in for the night.

Day 8Trek from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake and back to Siri Kharka

Today, you’ll begin on a trek from Tilicho Base Camp to Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. The path offers a challenging climb, but the reward is the stunning, turquoise lake surrounded by towering peaks. After spending time soaking in the serene beauty and taking in the breathtaking views, you’ll return to Siri Kharka. Along the way, enjoy the diverse alpine scenery and the tranquil atmosphere of the high-altitude landscape before settling in for the night at Siri Kharka.

Day 9Trek from Siri Kharka to Yak Kharka

You’ll descend from Siri Kharka and continue your trek toward Yak Kharka. As you walk, the trail passes through picturesque alpine meadows and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. After some time, we will reach Yak Kharka, which serves as a perfect spot to rest and acclimatize. Enjoy the serene environment and prepare for the next phase of your trek through the high Himalayas.

Day 10Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi

Today’s trek leads you to Thorong Phedi, the base camp for crossing Thorong La Pass. The trail is steep and challenging but rewards you with incredible views of the Annapurna range and the surrounding valleys. As you ascend, take in the majestic scenery and the striking contrasts of the rugged terrain. Thorong Phedi, situated at a high altitude, serves as the crucial resting point before the demanding climb to the pass.

Day 11 Cross Thorong La Pass and Trek to Muktinath

Today we will cross Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,416 m/ 17, 769ft, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. This challenging ascent rewards you with stunning vistas and a sense of accomplishment. After reaching the summit, you’ll begin the descent toward Muktinath, a sacred site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. Muktinath’s spiritual atmosphere, marked by its ancient temples and shrines, offers a unique cultural experience.

Day 12Drive from Muktinath to Tatopani

You’ll drive through the scenic landscapes of the Mustang region, passing traditional villages and enjoying views of the majestic Dhaulagiri range. As you make your way to Tatopani, you’ll witness the changing scenery from high mountain terrains to lush, riverine valleys. Upon arrival in Tatopani, unwind and relax in the natural hot springs, which are renowned for their soothing and therapeutic properties.

Day 13Drive from Tatopani to Pokhara

You’ll drive back to Pokhara, a charming city renowned for its beautiful lakes and breathtaking mountain views. As you travel, enjoy the scenic journey through lush landscapes and picturesque villages. Upon arrival, take the time to explore Pokhara’s vibrant streets, visit the serene lakeside, or relax with a stroll by Phewa Lake.

Day 14 Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

You’ll drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the scenic countryside view along the way. When you arrive in Kathmandu, you can spend your last evening exploring the city, shopping for souvenirs, or relaxing at a local cafe. Take this time to reflect on your adventure and make the most of your final moments in Nepal.

Day 15Final Departure

Your trek has come to an end. You will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport from the representatives of Black Diamond for your departure flight. You will be left with unforgettable memories of the Annapurna Circuit and Tilicho Lake trek.

Accomodation

You will be accommodated in Hotel Encounter Nepal or a similar category’s hotel in Kathmandu, and basic tea houses/guest houses during the trek when trekking with Black Diamond Expedition.
On most Everest Treks, the tea houses or lodges serve rooms on a twin-sharing basis with an attached bathroom and hot shower facilities. Single-supplement rooms are served with an extra charge of USD 495. This is for the Everest trek but if you go on a different trek then will be cheaper than this. However, it may be difficult to get one in higher points or during the peak season of trekking.
Some of the tea houses in this trekking region in both lower and higher elevations may have shared bathrooms and toilet facilities.

Meals

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes only breakfast while you are on the trek, there are three-course meals will be served during the trekking.
The tea house where we spend an overnight will serve us a balanced diet for breakfast and dinner whereas lunch is taken at one of the tea houses on the way to our next destination. Black Diamonds has also prepared a special Welcome and Farewell dinner for the guests following a cultural performance in Kathmandu.

Best time to travel Tilicho Lake

The best seasons for trekking to Tilicho Lake trekking are Autumn (September to December) and Spring (March to May).  During these seasons, you’ll encounter favorable weather conditions with moderate temperatures, clear skies, and captivating natural vistas. However, visits during other seasons also have their advantages, such as fewer crowds and often lower prices compared to peak seasons. The ever-changing weather conditions allow you to appreciate the diverse facets of the landscapes.

While trekking to Tilicho Lake,  it is essential to pack necessary items wisely. You should be sure to pack the stuff appropriately because you will be trekking through the rough terrain in high-altitude areas and it will be difficult to carry all the stuff and trek. So you should be careful and clever to pack only the necessary items. Some of the essential items that you should pack include:
