Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek is a great introductory trek for those who are looking for the wonderful adventure to the base camp of the world’s highest mountain in a very short time as much as possible. This trek ensures you a proper acclimatization en-route and takes you to the height of base camp very smoothly even though this is a shorter trip compare with other Everest Base Camp trip.

The memorable journey to Everest Base Camp start by taking a flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla and takes you towards the base camp passing through famous Sherpa Villages along with Pakhding and gateway to Mt. Everest- Namche. The trip furthers with a visit to the world’s highest Buddhist monastery the Tengboche, and the Everest Base Camp itself, where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set off on their epic journey to the successful summit of Everest in 1953.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in the Kathmandu Airport (TIA), you will be welcomed and greeted by our representative and then transfer to the hotel. After check in, you can either take rest; hang around in the city as it all depends upon your interests.

Day 2Kathmandu to Lukla flight and trek to Phakding

Early morning after breakfast transfer to Kathmandu airport in domestic terminal to fly over Lukla, a gateway destination for trekking in Everest Region. After 40 minutes adventurous and scenic view flight we reach in the Tenzing Hillary Airport at Lukla. Here we meet our other crew members and then we begin our first day easy trek through forest, villages and along the Dudh Koshi River to Phakding.

Day 3Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Today also we follow the Dudh Koshi River and cross suspension bridges many times, one of which is the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. On the way, we can see the beautiful view of Mt Thamserku (6618m). Passing through the small village of Benkar, Chumoa, Monjo we enter in to the Sagarmatha National Park. We cross the last village of Jorsale before Namche and then gradual walk through the forest and bridges until we reach the confluence of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi Rivers (Larja Dobhan). After then about 2 hours steep climb we reach Chautara from where we get the first sight of Mt. Everest. From there another 1.5 hours easy walking bring us to Namche Bazzar, the gate way to Mt. Everest and the main trading center.

Day 4Namche Bazaar: Rest day

Today is a rest and acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region. Nestled in a natural amphitheater surrounded by soaring peaks, Namche offers a perfect balance of comfort and adventure. You can spend the morning hiking up to the Everest View Hotel for breathtaking panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, or visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center to learn about local history and mountaineering heritage. The afternoon is ideal for exploring Namche’s lively market, cafés, and bakeries, or simply relaxing while your body adjusts to the altitude before continuing higher into the Himalayas.

Day 5Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

Today the trail is gradual ups and downs with the magnificent view of Himalayas and Musk Deer, Monal, Blue Sheep may come across on our way while walk through the jungle. We begin the day with gradual walk down up to Kayanguma, passing by Tenzing Norgye Memorial Stupa and viewing massive Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar, Taboche, Thamserku more snowcapped peaks. After then little ahead we reach Sansa, the junction to Gokyo Valley and Everest Base Camp. We follow the right trail to Everest Base Camp through pine forests and come across the bridge over Dhudh Koshi River in Phungi Thanga. From there the trail is little steep through the forest of rhododendron and fir trees to Tengboche village, the home of biggest Buddhist Monastery of Everest region and the close up view of massive Ama Dablam, Nuptse and Everest is very impressive.

Day 6Tengboche to Dingboche

Morning witness and capture the awesome view of mountains in the background of Tengboche Monastery. After breakfast we continue the journey through gradual down from rhododendron trees and come across the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River. About an hour further walk will bring us to Pangboche which offers a dramatic view of Himalayas and village. Passing by several Chortens, Mani walls and Pangboche Gompa we continue the trek through the village of Syomare, Orsho and Samso Ogma where we meet the junction. From there we follow the right path and after crossing the bridge over the confluence of Khumbu Khola and Imja River we climb steep path to Chyakunwa Kharka from where we can see the spectacular view of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Khangteka, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse and many more. After few minutes gradual climb we will be welcomed by chorten and prayer flags in Dingboche.

Day 7Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Today is dedicated to rest and acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the higher altitude before continuing upward. You can take a short hike to Nangkartsang Peak (around 16,700 ft) for panoramic views of Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, or explore the nearby ridge overlooking the Imja Valley. The day offers a chance to relax, enjoy the warmth of local lodges, and take in the peaceful atmosphere of Dingboche—a high-altitude farming village that marks a significant point on the Everest Base Camp trail.

Day 8Dingboche to Lobuche (16,207 ft)

The trail from Dingboche to Lobuche begins with a gentle ascent through the wide, windswept valley, where views of towering peaks like Taboche and Cholatse dominate the horizon. Gradually, the path climbs toward the small settlement of Thukla, where trekkers pause for tea and to prepare for the steep ascent ahead. The route then leads past the poignant Thukla Pass, marked by memorials honoring climbers who have lost their lives on Everest. From here, the trail levels out as it follows the glacial moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, surrounded by rugged peaks and dramatic terrain, before finally reaching Lobuche—a small, rocky settlement nestled high in the Himalayas, offering a true sense of being in the heart of the mountains.

Day 9Lobuche to Gorak Shep and to Everest Base Camp then back to Gorak Shep

Today, after an early breakfast, we will follow a path through a rugged glacial landscape towards Gorakshep. We reach Chongri Glacier after passing through the Italian research center and the Lobuche pass(5,110m/16,765ft.). While crossing the Glacier we get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest’s summit from the north ridge, as well as 360-degree vistas of snow-capped peaks including Mt. Pumori, Mahalangur, Khumbutse, and Nuptse. 

Upon reaching Gorakshep, we take a moment to rest and relax. From here, we continue our trek for about 2.5 hours towards Everest Base Camp(EBC), a rewarding and thrilling highlight. We will stand at the foot of the world’s tallest mountain and witness the breathtaking views of the Khumbu icefall and surrounding peaks. After capturing some photos and reflecting on the trek,  we will return to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

Day 10 Gorak Shep to Kalapatthar and back to Pheriche

Today, we will trek early in the morning towards Kalapathhar(5,664m/18,583ft.) to witness the most panoramic sunrise views over the Himalayan mountain ranges. After hiking for about 3 to 4 hours, we will witness the picturesque views of Mount Everest and panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. After soaking in the majestic views and capturing some beautiful photos, we will return to Gorakshep. We will have our breakfast and head our way downwards Pheriche. We will spend the overnight at Pheriche.

Day 11Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

After an early breakfast in Pheriche, we will descent through alpine meadows and small stone villages. During the trek, you can observe the clear views of Ama Dablam’s elegant peak before entering the lush forests near Pangboche.The route continues down to the suspension bridge at Phunki Tenga, followed by a steady uphill climb through rhododendron and pine forests. After walking for some hours, you will reach Namche Bazaar. Here, you can explore the local markets, have nice deserts, or just relax in the lively atmosphere.

Day 12Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Today is our last trekking day and we trek back the same route but we feel completely different view. Trail is steep, so we need to walk slowly supporting own body with shaky legs. We trek back exploring attractions on the way, experiencing Sherpa culture in beautiful villages and enjoying distance view of Himalayas. Freezing cold turns to moderately warm and our body get relief today. After breakfast we begins gradual walk for few minutes and then steep down to the Larja Bridge which is the confluence point of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi River. From there the gradual walk along Dudh Koshi River will bring us to the exit point from National Park, the Jorsale village. Again following the Dudh Koshi River, pass by the small village of Monjo, Chumoa, Benkar and walking through rhododendron forest, we reach Phakding. Few hours more gradual walk will bring us at Lukla. In Lukla we do relax and stretch the tired body. Late afternoon we can stroll around the Lukla. Evening we enjoy the last dinner with crew members.

Day 13Lukla – Kathmandu

After early breakfast we fly back to Kathmandu memorizing those excited and beautiful days. In Kathmandu you can take a rest throughout the day in hotel or you can explore other attractions of Kathmandu. For the memorizing the Nepal trip you can buy some souvenirs for yourself or for friends and family in Thamel Area. Late evening we celebrate the success of our trip and enjoy dinner together.

Day 14Departure

After breakfast you are free till departure time. If you have more time you can do shopping or sightseeing around Kathmandu. Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight, a representative from Black Diamond drops you to the airport.

Kathmandu to Lukla Flight

Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flights are susceptible to delays or cancellations due to unpredictable mountain weather, even in the best seasons. It’s wise to allocate extra days for potential delays. If your flight is canceled, you have the option to wait or consider an alternative, such as a helicopter ride for approximately $550 per person one way.

Accomodation

You will be accommodated in Hotel Encounter Nepal or a similar category’s hotel in Kathmandu; and basic tea houses/guest houses during the trek when trekking with Black Diamond Expedition. On most Everest Treks, the tea houses or lodges serve rooms on a twin-sharing basis with an attached bathroom and hot shower facilities. Single-supplement rooms are served with an extra charge of USD 495. However, it may be difficult to get one in higher points or during peak season trekking. Some of the tea houses in this trekking region in both lower and higher elevations may have shared bathroom and toilet facilities. We always make sure to book you the best possible accommodation at Everest Base Camp.

Meals

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes only breakfast while a three-course meal will be served during the trekking. The tea house where we spend an overnight will serve us a balanced diet for breakfast and dinner whereas lunch is taken at one of the tea houses on the way to our next destination. Black Diamonds has also prepared a special Welcome and Farewell dinner for the guests following a cultural performance.

Best time to trek Everest Base Camp

The best times to hike Everest Base Camp are Autumn (September to December) and Spring (March to May). During these seasons, you’ll encounter favorable weather conditions with moderate temperatures, clear skies, and captivating natural vistas. However, visits during other seasons also have their advantages, such as fewer crowds and often lower prices compared to peak seasons. The ever-changing weather conditions allow you to appreciate the diverse facets of the landscapes.

How hard is it to climb Everest Base Camp?

Everest base camp difficulty level is fairly demanding due to its long duration trek at an altitude of 17,599 feet (5,364 meters) and unpredictable trail conditions. Despite the challenges, the trek can be completed with proper preparation and determination as it does not require any technical mountaineering expertise. It is also important to follow appropriate safety measures while doing the trek. We also can make arrangements for the porters to do heavy lifting for you. Through the trek, we always make sure that you are fit and fine for the next destination. What is the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp?

The months during fall(September-October-November) and spring (March-April-May) are considered as the best time for Everest Base Camp trek. In this season the temperature is moderate with clear sky and the dry trails, which gives us ample opportunity to admire the majestic view of mountain ranges with perfect trekking conditions. During the months of winter (December-February) the temperature is extremely cold with heavy snowfall and during the months of monsoon (June-August) there is heavy rainfall and the trail is slippery with leeches on the way. During the winter and monsoon you should take extra precautions as the unfavorable condition makes it difficult to trek. If you like to trek when there are few tourists, winter and monsoon are the best times and you can get an extra discount on top.
