Overview

Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek is one of the legendary “Hidden Valley” treks of the Himalayas. This trek offers eye catching views of several mountain peaks of the Langtang range. Some of them are Mt. Ganesh, Mt. Shringi, Manaslu range, Annapurna range, Lamjung Himal, Himalchuli and many other unnamed mountains and peaks of central Himalayas. Presence of the Precious stone crystals, twin water fall Ganga and Jamuna, Kukur Dhara (Dog Spring), Kalo Seto Kunda (Black White Lake) are some specific natural feature of the Ganesh Himal region. This is a purely camping and moderate trek.

Starting from the Samari Bhanjyang, Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trekking trail covers huge geographical diversity and leads from tropical to pine forest and then alpine meadows to a huge glacier below the snow capped peaks. The trail passes through narrow gorges, pine, rhododendron and oak forests, highland meadows and also provides a chance to see different species of birds and wild animals. Along the trail, there is an opportunity to interact with different ethnic groups such as Tamang, Gurung, Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar and some others which help to understand their tradition closely. Ganesh Himal Base Camp trek also offers to explore untouched culture and Hindu as well as Buddhist pilgrimage sites. This merely camping trek concluded at Aarughat Bazaar which is also the route to Manaslu Trekking.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in the Kathmandu airport (TIA), you will be greeted by a representative from Black Diamond at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to the hotel. After the check in, you can either take a rest or hang around in the city as it all depends upon your interests. In the evening, we will organize a Welcome Dinner at an excellent traditional Nepalese restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation

Today after breakfast we will start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites; including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Bauddha Nath) which is one of the large Stupas in the world. In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. Black Diamond representative briefs us regarding our trek as well as provides us an opportunity to ask any questions we may have regarding our upcoming adventure.

Day 3Kathmandu to Samari Bhanjyang

After breakfast, drive towards Samari Bhanjyang. On the way, we pass through Trishuli Bazaar- a small town that was once the hub for trekking in this region and is home to a small but interesting traditional bazaar. After 7 hours scenic drive from the hilly road, we reach Samari Bhanjyang, a small town which is used to be a trading hub. Overnight in camp.

Day 4Samari Bhanjyang to Katunje Bazaar

Today is the beginning of our trek. After breakfast, we start trek along gradual descent and then ascend to uphill. On the way, we pass through different villages pine and rhododendron forest, beautiful terraces, small streams. Finally walking through flat land we reach Katunje Bazaar from where we can have first glimpse of Ganesh Himal. Overnight in camp.

Day 5Katunje Bazaar to Kintang Phedi

Today the trek starts from Katunje through downhill trail till Lapang Besi. Passing through several traditional villages, farming terraces, fishing spot, beautiful green hills and finally walking along the river bank we reach Kintang Phedi. Kintang Phendi is a small village with typical houses and lies on the bank of Netrawati or Ankhu Khola. Overnight in camp.

Day 6 Kintang Phedi to Jharlang

Today the whole day we ascend gradual trail. We pass through the several villages exploring the day to day life and culture of Tamang, Brahmin and Chhetris people. After around six hours walk, we reach Jharlang which is a Tamang village with numerous typical houses and a government school. We explore the tradition of Tamang people. Overnight in camp.

Day 7Jharlang to Chalise

After breakfast, we start the trek ascending gradually, passing through the several Tamang villages including famous Borang and Shertum villages where chortens, mani walls, school and health post is located. Later the trail becomes plain before the Chalise. We are greeted by the cool climate, green hills, beautiful terraces and far sighted villages view at Chalise. Overnight in camp.

Day 8 Chalise to Hindung

Today the initial trail is downhill up to Menchet Khola (stream) and after crossing the stream its steep up and then gradual up lead us to Hot-spring. We can take a bath in the spring and have lunch. After then pass by small Tamang villages, forest, and climbing steep path for two and half hours brings us to maize terrace and then to Hindung. On the way, we pass small Tamang villages, forest, farming terraces and green hills. Hindung village is inhabited by the Tamang community and is the last village of this trekking. Overnight in camp.

Day 9Hindung to Rajgang Kharka

Today we can feel the difference in vegetation and landscapes, and also chance to encounter with different birds and animals as we pass through the forest. The trail is ascent and flat as well. After around 5-6 hours walk, we reach Rajgang Kharka surrounded by beautiful forest and grassland which is use as a pasture land. Overnight in camp.

Day 10Rajgang Kharka to Kalo Seto Kunda (Ganesh Himal Base Camp- 4500m)

Today the trail brings us to the special place called Kalo (black) Seto (white) Kunda (lake). We follow the narrow and mostly uphill trail but somewhere leveled path. Initially, we pass through the forests and as we gain the altitude later the vegetation turns into alpine grassland. Finally after around six hours trek we reach Kalo Seto Kund, holy lakes. The surface of Kalo Kunda or Black Lake is covered with black stones and just the reverse, surface of Seto Kunda or White Lake is covered with white shining stones. During the winter, these lakes are frozen. Overnight in camp.

Day 11Rest Day

Today is the rest day at the base camp. We explore the Kalo Seto Kunda (Black and White Lake) and enjoy the majestic view of Ganesh Himal, Paldor Himal and many more. Overnight in camp.

Day 12Ganesh Himal Base Camp to Rajgang Kharka

We trek back from the Ganesh Himal Base Camp to Rajgang Kharka via same trail through narrow path and descend all the way. Overnight in camp.

Day 13Rajgang Kharka to Chalise

Today also we trek back through same way from Rajgang Kharka to Chalise via Hindung village. The trail is downhill all the way to Chalise. Overnight in camp.

Day 14Chalise to Laba Besi

Today we trek downhill all the way to Laba Besi through pine forest, Tamang villages, farming terraces and beautiful landscapes. Laba Besi lies at the bank of Ankhu and Laba Khola. Overnight in camp.

Day 15Laba Besi to Manyang Bhanjyang

Today we trek through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests which is the home of various species of birds and wild animals. The trail is ascent all the way passing by Khading village (resided by Tamang and Gurung) to Manyang Bhanjyang from where Ganesh Himal can be seen. Overnight in camp.

Day 16Manyang Bhanjyang to Majhgaun

After breakfast we trek along gradual descent path and then steep descent. On the way we cross the rhododendron and oak forests, beautiful villages and green hills. Today if weather is clear we can see the marvelous view of Manaslu Himalayas range, Buddha peak and many more snow capped peaks. After around 6 hours walk we reach at Majhgaun. Overnight in camp.

Day 17Majhgaun to Budathum

Today’s specialty is to explore Newar tradition and culture in Budathum. After breakfast passing different villages, forests, streams and beautiful landscapes finally reach at Budathum. Budathum is pre dominated by Newar community and here we explore the typical and special tradition of Newars with the spectacular views of Manaslu range. Overnight in camp.

Day 18Budathum to Aarughat Bazaar & drive to Kathmandu

Today is the last day of our trek. We trek descent path and then through leveled path along the Budhi Gandaki River. After 2 hours pleasant walk we reach at Aarughat Bazaar. Arughat Bazaar is an old market and also the route to Manaslu Trekking. From Aarughat we drive back to the Kathmandu enjoying the beautiful mountain views, green sceneries and beautiful hilly landscapes. After 6 hours drive finally we reach at Kathmandu. Check into the hotel and rest. Overnight in Kathmandu: Hotel Encounter Nepal.

Day 19 Kathmandu free day of your own

Today is the free day and you can use it for your shopping or optional tour in cultural places and can take a popular 1 hour flight over Mt. Everest. In the evening we will celebrate dinner together with Black Diamond staffs. Overnight in hotel.

Day 20 Final Departure

After breakfast free till departure time. If you have more time you can do shopping or sightseeing around Kathmandu. Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight, a representative from Black Diamond drops you to the airport.

Accomodation

You will be accommodated in Hotel Encounter Nepal or a similar category’s hotel in Kathmandu, and basic tea houses/guest houses during the trek when trekking with Black Diamond Expedition.
On most Everest Treks, the tea houses or lodges serve rooms on a twin-sharing basis with an attached bathroom and hot shower facilities. Single-supplement rooms are served with an extra charge of USD 495. This is for the Everest trek but if you go on a different trek then will be cheaper than this. However, it may be difficult to get one in higher points or during the peak season of trekking.
Some of the tea houses in this trekking region in both lower and higher elevations may have shared bathrooms and toilet facilities.

Meals

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes only breakfast while you are on the trek, there are three-course meals will be served during the trekking.
The tea house where we spend an overnight will serve us a balanced diet for breakfast and dinner whereas lunch is taken at one of the tea houses on the way to our next destination. Black Diamonds has also prepared a special Welcome and Farewell dinner for the guests following a cultural performance in Kathmandu.

Best time to trek Ganesh Himal Base Camp

The best seasons for trekking to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp are Autumn (September to December) and Spring (March to May). During these seasons, you’ll encounter favorable weather conditions with moderate temperatures, clear skies, and captivating natural vistas. However, visits during other seasons also have their advantages, such as fewer crowds and often lower prices compared to peak seasons. The ever-changing weather conditions allow you to appreciate the diverse facets of the landscapes.
